This small record player formed part of the SK 4 radio-phonograph (p. 25) but was later also sold as a separate unit. Developed between February and September 1956, it was originally designed at Werkstatt Wagenfeld in Stuttgart, but the studio was unable to find a satisfying form. Certain parts of the design were moved to the Braun factory in Frankfurt, where the chassis was straightened and the tonearm reworked. The design of the platter remained in Stuttgart where its distinctive rubber nubs and retractable central star were retained. As with Rams's initial design for the SK 4, the PC 3 came with a set of short legs.
